The Lord Vishnu Idol represents cosmic harmony, divine order and the continuous cycle of creation, preservation and dissolution. Lord Vishnu is considered the sustainer of the universe and part of the divine Trinity with Brahma and Shiva. Vishnu’s avatars known as incarnations appear to restore cosmic balance and uphold righteousness. The Lord Vishnu Idol is a visible representation of his cosmic presence and divine virtues.

Vishnu is often shown with four arms each holding a conch shell (shankha), a discus (chakra), a mace (gada) and a lotus flower. Each of these attributes symbolizes different aspects of cosmic control, spiritual power and purity.

Lord Vishnu is known for ten principal avatars including well-known incarnations like Lord Rama and Lord Krishna. The Lord Vishnu Murti may depict him in various forms, each representing a specific divine mission and purpose. These avatars embody divine responses to challenges and threats to cosmic order.

Different Types of Lord Vishnu Idol :

1. Standing Vishnu Idol :

Depicts Lord Vishnu in a standing posture often holding a conch shell (shankha), discus (chakra), mace (gada) and a lotus.

2. Seated Vishnu Idol (Padmanabha Vishnu):

The most common form showing Lord Vishnu seated on the cosmic serpent Ananta Shesha with the same attributes as the standing form.

3. Ranganatha Vishnu Statue :

Specific to the deity enshrined in the Ranganatha Swamy Temple depicting Lord Vishnu lying on the serpent Adi Shesha.

4. Vamana Vishnu Murti :

Illustrates Lord Vishnu in his dwarf form recalling the Vamana Avatara when he took on this form to subdue the demon Bali.

5. Narasimha Vishnu Murti :

Represents Lord Vishnu in his half-man, half-lion form signifying the Narasimha Avatara where he protected devotee Prahlada.

6. Parashurama Vishnu Murti :

Depicts Lord Vishnu with an axe symbolizing the Parashurama Avatara where he wielded a powerful axe to restore dharma.

7. Kalki Vishnu Statue :
